In a moment of great pride for Manipur, Jiribam town has been conferred the ‘Most Promising Town’ award at the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024–25, reaffirming its place among India’s leading clean towns. The award was presented in New Delhi during a prestigious ceremony graced by President Droupadi Murmu and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
This recognition marks the fifth year in a row that Jiribam has earned national recognition under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The town, located 220 km west of Imphal, was evaluated among 21 towns in Northeast India with populations under 20,000 and secured an impressive 174th rank nationally out of 2,035 towns.

A Model Town for Clean Urban Living
Officials from the MAHUD (Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development) department and the Jiribam Municipal Council received the award on behalf of the town. They attributed the success to the government’s strong emphasis on sustainable waste management, the active participation of local residents, and the tireless efforts of frontline sanitation workers.
“Jiribam has emerged as a model for small-town sanitation in the Northeast,” said a senior MAHUD official. “Our goal is to now achieve 5-star GFC status.”
The town’s achievement follows in the footsteps of other Manipur towns recognized in previous years, including Lamlai (Fast Moving City, 2022) and Kakching (Cleanest City, 2018 & 2019).
