Preparations are underway for the much-anticipated 1st District Olympic Games 2025-26 in Thoubal, with the District Olympic Association (DOA) Thoubal officially forming the Organising Committee. The Games are scheduled to be held from September 24 to 28, featuring competitions across 20 sporting disciplines.
Committee Formation
The preparatory meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Smt. Hannah Kahmei, IAS, brought together district sports associations, educational institutions, social organisations, and administrative officials. The aim was to ensure wide-ranging participation and smooth execution of the event.
The Organising Committee will be led by:
Chairman: DC Smt. Hannah Kahmei, IAS
Working Chairman: M. Mani Singh, President, DOA Thoubal
Organising Secretary: M. Madhusudon Singh, Secretary, DOA Thoubal
Vice Chairman: Senior SP Shivananda Surve, IPS
Other members include representatives from sports bodies, schools, colleges, and NGOs.
Scale of the Games
Under the guidance of the Manipur Olympic Association and supported by government departments, NGOs, and local institutions, the Games are expected to bring together around 2,000 participants from across the district.
Organisers emphasised that the event is not just a sporting competition but also an opportunity to promote youth engagement, community spirit, and talent discovery.
Call for Public Support
Speaking at the meeting, officials appealed to the public for active cooperation.
“This is more than a tournament — it is a festival of sports. We want the people of Thoubal to come forward, cheer for our athletes, and help us build a strong sporting culture,” the committee stated.
Promoting Sports, Nurturing Talent
The introduction of the District Olympic Games marks a significant milestone for Thoubal. By offering a structured platform at the district level, organisers aim to nurture grassroots sporting talent, many of whom could go on to represent Manipur and India at higher levels.
The upcoming event will also provide valuable exposure to young athletes, while boosting the district’s reputation as a hub of sporting excellence.
