Security Forces arrested an active cadre of the banned insurgent group Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) during a targeted operation in Imphal East district.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Sarangthem Ibomcha Meitei, alias Luwangba, aged 22, a resident of Itham Wangma Mayai Leikai under Thoubal Dam Police Station.
Seizure and Immediate Investigation
From his possession, Security Forces recovered a mobile phone, which officials say may contain crucial information on his network, activities, and possible links to extortion or insurgency planning. The device has been handed over for forensic analysis.
Authorities are investigating whether the accused was directly involved in recent incidents of intimidation, fund collection, or other militant operations in Imphal East and adjoining areas.
Part of Wider Crackdown
This arrest comes amid intensified operations in Manipur, where Security Forces have been conducting searches, area domination patrols, and intelligence-based operations to curb insurgent activities.
Over the past weeks, multiple arrests and recoveries of arms, ammunition, and communication devices have taken place across Imphal, Kakching, Churachandpur, Jiribam, and Chandel districts.
KYKL’s History of Insurgency
The KYKL, formed in the mid-1990s, is one of Manipur’s banned outfits known for violent activities including ambushes, extortion, and targeting of civilians and security personnel. Security analysts believe that such arrests are vital in weakening the organisational strength of underground groups operating in the state.
