A one-day awareness programme on Child Protection was held today at Loktak Christian Model High School, Moirang, organised by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Bishnupur in collaboration with the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Bishnupur, under the supervision of the District Administration.
The event brought together students, educators, and experts to discuss pressing issues that affect the well-being and safety of children, ranging from cybercrime threats to mental health challenges.
Guidance from the District Commissioner
Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur, Smt. Pooja Elangbam, delivered a keynote address, urging students to nurture healthy friendships, focus on personal growth, and use social media wisely. She emphasized that mistakes are part of learning and encouraged young people to seek help from teachers and parents when in doubt.
Her message resonated strongly with the students, underscoring the role of community and family support in ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children.
Expert Sessions on Cybercrime and Mental Health
The programme featured two key expert-led sessions:
Cybercrime Awareness: Dr. Leishangthem Jeebit Singh, DSP Cyber Crime, Manipur Police, spoke about common online threats, responsible internet use, and the importance of reporting cybercrimes promptly. Students were reminded of the national Cybercrime Helpline – 1930 as a resource for assistance.
Mental Health Awareness: Aribam Gulson Sharma, Clinical Psychologist, District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Bishnupur, addressed the psychological pressures faced by adolescents. He highlighted the importance of maintaining balance, recognizing stress signals, and accessing mental health support when needed.
A Collective Push for Safer Childhoods
The awareness drive reflects the district administration’s proactive approach to protecting children and preparing them for challenges in the digital age. By blending legal, psychological, and social perspectives, the programme equipped students with practical knowledge to safeguard themselves and support their peers.
Parents and teachers attending the event appreciated the interactive approach and called for more such initiatives to reach rural and semi-urban schools across Bishnupur.
