Manipur farmers get big break: ₹15 crore+ worth contracts for ginger, turmeric, black rice & more

A 17-member delegation from the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), under the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation and the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur, showcased the state’s finest organic produce at BIOFACH India 2025 – the country’s leading organic trade fair, held at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida.

The team successfully facilitated agreements worth over ₹15 crore, strengthening Manipur’s reputation as a powerhouse of high-quality organic products.

Manipur’s Organic Strengths

At the expo, the delegation presented Manipur’s unique organic range including:

Ginger & Turmeric – known for purity and medicinal value,

Chakhao (Black Aromatic Rice) – Manipur’s GI-tagged superfood with rising global demand,

King Chilli (U-Morok) – among the hottest chillies in the world,

Garlic, Red Quinoa, Moringa, Black Rajma and Ashwagandha – all grown under strict organic standards.

These products drew strong interest from buyers, resulting in procurement and contract farming agreements that will directly benefit Manipur’s farming communities.

Unlocking New Markets

Officials confirmed that the deals will open up domestic and international markets for Manipuri farmers. By linking producers to organised buyers, the initiative ensures better price realisation, long-term contracts, and sustainable income opportunities.

“This achievement is not just about numbers; it’s about empowering our farmers, strengthening rural livelihoods, and positioning Manipur as a serious player in India’s organic economy,” a MOMA official said.

Contribution to India’s Organic Mission

With this breakthrough, Manipur strengthens its contribution to India’s organic farming movement. The deals also reinforce the government’s goal of making the Northeast a hub for organic cultivation and export.

As demand for clean, chemical-free food rises, Manipur’s farmers stand at the forefront of delivering high-value produce to the market.
