Keirao MLA L. Rameshwor has raised a red flag over the political vacuum in Manipur, saying the formation of a new popular government cannot be delayed any further if the state is to avoid spiralling into deeper disorder.
Speaking to journalists after inaugurating a warehouse named “The Solution” at his residence, Rameshwor disclosed that a section of ruling party legislators has identified Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabrata as the preferred leader to head the proposed new government. A formal proposal, he said, is likely to be placed before the Governor soon.
Satyabrata Emerges as Consensus Choice Among MLAs
While no official announcement has been made, Rameshwor confirmed that discussions among MLAs have reached an advanced stage. According to him, “a significant number of BJP legislators are aligned behind Satyabrata as the leader of the legislature party” to revive a functioning government in the state.
He added that central party leaders are expected to visit Manipur later this month to assess the situation and engage with local lawmakers.
“Manipur Is at Breaking Point”
Reflecting on the prolonged humanitarian and administrative crisis, Rameshwor did not mince words.
“The crisis is unprecedented. People are mentally, physically, and economically exhausted. If we do not form a government this month, Manipur could plunge into deeper chaos.”
He stressed that both elected representatives and the public are frustrated with the lack of clear direction. The prolonged uncertainty, he warned, is eroding trust in institutions and weakening administrative systems already under strain.
Call for Immediate Action or Fresh Mandate
If efforts to install a new government fail by November, Rameshwor suggested that dissolving the Assembly and seeking a fresh mandate from citizens would be the most democratic path.
“If the current situation drags on without a resolution, the Assembly should be dissolved. Let the people decide again.”
