The Lead Bank Office of State Bank of India (SBI), in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Imphal, organised a District-Level Awareness and Assistance Camp on Unclaimed Funds cum RBI Financial Literacy Programme at Makhan Centre, Senapati, on December 5, 2025.
The initiative witnessed participation from over 200 people, including members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from five villages, highlighting strong community interest in financial awareness and inclusion.
Focus on Unclaimed Deposits and Financial Literacy
A key focus of the programme was spreading awareness about unclaimed deposits lying with banks and financial institutions, and educating citizens on how to trace and claim such funds through the UDGAM (Unclaimed Deposits – Gateway to Access Information) Portal introduced by the RBI.
Officials explained the reasons why deposits often go unclaimed—such as inactive accounts, migration, lack of nominee details, or incomplete KYC—and guided participants on simple steps to retrieve their rightful funds in a timely manner.
In addition to unclaimed deposits, sessions were conducted on financial inclusion, safe banking practices, and various social security schemes aimed at providing financial protection to citizens, especially those from rural and underserved areas.
On-the-Spot Assistance for Citizens
The camp stood out for its emphasis on on-the-spot service delivery. Attendees were able to:
-
Submit claims for unclaimed deposits
-
Complete Re-KYC formalities
-
Enrol in government-backed social security schemes
-
Register under Udyam for micro and small enterprises
These services helped participants address long-pending banking issues without the need for repeated visits to banks or offices.
Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration
The programme saw active participation from multiple stakeholders, reflecting a coordinated approach towards inclusive growth. Representatives from:
-
Banks operating in the district
-
Life Insurance Corporation (LIC)
-
Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM)
-
District Industries Centre (DIC)
-
Agriculture Department, and
-
Other supporting departments
were present to provide guidance, clarify doubts, and assist beneficiaries directly.
Officials highlighted that such convergence-driven camps are critical in ensuring that government schemes and institutional services actually reach grassroots communities.
Empowering Citizens Through Knowledge
Addressing the participants, banking officials emphasised that financial literacy is the backbone of economic empowerment, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions. They encouraged citizens to remain vigilant about their financial records, update nominee details, complete KYC regularly, and make use of digital platforms provided by regulators.
The participation of SHG members was particularly noted as a positive step towards spreading financial awareness at the household and community levels, especially among women.
Strengthening Inclusive Growth
The organisers stated that the objective of the camp was not only to facilitate claims of unclaimed funds but also to instil confidence among citizens in engaging with formal financial systems. By combining awareness sessions with practical, hands-on assistance, the programme aimed to bridge gaps between institutions and the public.
The RBI–SBI initiative marks another step towards strengthening financial inclusion, transparency and grassroots-level economic participation in Senapati district.
