The Union government on Tuesday (February 24) blocked five over-the-top (OTT) streaming platforms for allegedly hosting and distributing content deemed obscene, according to a report by news agency ANI. The action was led by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) under existing provisions of India’s Information Technology (IT) framework governing online publishers.
The platforms that have been blocked are MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu. Authorities said these services were found streaming material that failed to comply with legal and regulatory standards applicable to digital content platforms in India.
Action Taken Under IT Regulations
Officials indicated that the decision followed a review of content available on the platforms, which was assessed against norms laid down for online publishers. These include restrictions on content that is obscene, sexually explicit, or otherwise in violation of Indian law and public decency standards.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which oversees digital media regulation, exercised its powers under the IT Rules to restrict access to the platforms across India. Internet service providers have been instructed to block access to the apps and associated websites.
While detailed findings of the review have not been made public, officials said the material hosted on these platforms crossed permissible limits and did not adhere to self-regulation requirements mandated for OTT services.
Part of a Broader Pattern of Enforcement
The latest move follows a similar and much larger crackdown carried out in July 2025, when the Union government blocked 25 OTT platforms accused of broadcasting content described as obscene, vulgar, or in some cases pornographic.
Platforms affected in the earlier action included ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, ShowHit, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks.
Together, the two rounds of enforcement signal a tightening of oversight over niche and lesser-known streaming platforms, particularly those operating outside mainstream OTT ecosystems.

For viewers, access to the blocked platforms has already been disabled. The government has not indicated whether the bans are temporary or permanent, or whether the platforms can seek restoration by bringing their content into compliance.
