In a significant administrative development, the Hon’ble President of India has appointed Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Governor of Manipur, to also discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland. The decision follows the sad demise of Shri La. Ganesan, the sitting Governor of Nagaland.
The official communiqué, released by the President’s Secretariat and posted on August 16, 2025, at 7:55 PM, confirmed that Shri Bhalla will take charge of Nagaland’s gubernatorial responsibilities in addition to his existing role in Manipur.

Shri La. Ganesan, who had been serving as the Governor of Nagaland, passed away recently, creating a sudden vacancy at the state’s highest constitutional office. Known for his long political career and administrative experience, his demise has left a void in Nagaland’s governance.
