District Commissioner (DC) of Bishnupur, Smt. Pooja Elangbam, chaired a crucial security coordination meeting today at the Mini Secretariat Complex to discuss the safe conduct of harvesting activities in fringe areas and the early rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The meeting brought together senior administrative and law enforcement officials including SP (in-charge) Shri Th. Shangkar Deba, ADM Shri Toijam Opendro, commanding officers and representatives of central forces, along with SDOs, OCs, and other key stakeholders.
The primary agenda revolved around ensuring that farmers in sensitive and fringe zones can carry out harvesting without fear or disruption. Given the volatile conditions in certain parts of the district, the DC emphasized the importance of close coordination between civil and security agencies to maintain peace and order.
Timings Fixed for Safe Harvesting
After detailed discussions, it was decided that all harvesting activities in fringe areas will be conducted strictly between 6:30 AM and 4:00 PM. The time window was set to ensure that operations take place under optimal daylight and within the coverage hours of security personnel deployed in the region.
Smt. Pooja Elangbam urged farmers to strictly adhere to the prescribed schedule, stressing that coordinated timing would allow security teams to better safeguard both lives and crops. “Our goal is to ensure that farmers can harvest safely and return home without anxiety. Cooperation and discipline will help us achieve that,” she stated.
Focus on IDP Rehabilitation
Beyond immediate security concerns, the meeting also touched upon the early rehabilitation and reintegration of displaced persons who have been living in temporary relief camps since the recent unrest.
The DC reiterated the administration’s commitment to restoring normalcy and helping affected families return to their homes as conditions stabilize.
Administrative officials present assured full cooperation in expediting rehabilitation measures, with support from both state and central security agencies.
A Collaborative Effort
The meeting concluded with a consensus that effective inter-departmental coordination and strict adherence to protocols are critical for maintaining peace and ensuring that seasonal activities like harvesting are not disrupted.
Officials from the District Police, Central Forces, and Civil Administration agreed to maintain regular communication and monitoring throughout the harvest period.
This initiative marks another step by the Bishnupur District Administration toward stabilizing rural livelihoods, reinforcing public confidence, and setting the groundwork for lasting peace in the region.
