Security Forces have arrested a 49-year-old woman, identified as Manneihoi Baite, in a significant narcotics operation in Manipur’s Churachandpur district. The arrest was made at her residence in S. Munnuam under Churachandpur Police Station jurisdiction.
According to officials, a large quantity of psychotropic substances was recovered during the operation. The seized contraband consisted of 1,200 WY (World Is Yours) tablets, a synthetic stimulant commonly abused in the region, with an estimated street value of approximately ₹10 lakh.
Crackdown on the “Golden Triangle” Trade
Manipur has long faced challenges related to drug trafficking due to its proximity to the infamous “Golden Triangle” — a region bordering Myanmar known for the production and smuggling of narcotics. WY tablets, also known as methamphetamine pills, are among the most widely trafficked synthetic drugs in the region, often smuggled through porous international borders before being distributed domestically.
Authorities believe that the seizure in Churachandpur is part of a larger supply chain that targets vulnerable youth populations in the state and neighboring areas.
Growing Concern Over WY Tablets
WY tablets, branded with the imprint “WY,” are known for their high stimulant effect and addictive potential. These pills have become increasingly popular among drug networks due to their cheap production costs and high street demand. Officials warn that their abuse poses serious health risks, including psychosis, cardiovascular problems, and long-term dependency.
Law Enforcement’s Push
The arrest is the latest in a series of anti-narcotics actions carried out by Manipur Police and allied forces this year. Authorities have stepped up surveillance and raids in high-risk areas, particularly in Churachandpur, Moreh, and Jiribam, which are considered vulnerable routes for drug smuggling.
