In a major crackdown on illicit liquor distribution, Manipur Police apprehended two individuals from the Mantripukhri area under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district, recovering a staggering 16,073 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).
The Accused:
Thangjam Arbin Singh (28) — resident of Sagolband Thangjam Leikai, Imphal West
Keisham Santa Meetei (40) — resident of Kangsoibi Mapal, Bishnupur
The seizure includes assorted brands of IMFL, carefully packed and likely intended for black-market distribution across the state. The estimated value of the contraband is around ₹55 lakh — one of the largest recent hauls in the region.
Police Action
The operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, with the swift response of the Heingang Police leading to the arrests and seizure. Authorities suspect a larger network could be behind the consignment and are investigating further to trace the supply chain.
A police spokesperson stated:
“The volume and value of this seizure point to a well-organized racket. Further interrogations are underway, and we’re pursuing leads that could uncover deeper criminal links.”
