The United Naga Council (UNC) has formally submitted the list of its delegation for the upcoming talks with the Government of India, scheduled to be held today at Raj Bhavan, Imphal. The discussions come at a critical time, as debates around the FMR — which allows cross-border movement between India and Myanmar — and border fencing have intensified in recent months. Naga bodies have repeatedly expressed concerns that such measures could adversely impact traditional ties, movement, and livelihood practices of Naga tribes across the border.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, UNC General Secretary Vareiyo Shatsang termed it a “crucial dialogue for protecting the rights and interests of the Naga people,” stressing that the community seeks an outcome that safeguards both security and identity.
The outcome of today’s meeting is expected to shape the trajectory of state and central policies on cross-border movement in Naga areas.
