Community, Nutrition, and Change: Manipur Celebrates 8th Poshan Maah with Statewide Activities

The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with line departments, civil society, and community stakeholders, successfully concluded the 8th Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month) 2025, observed from 17th September to 16th October across the state.

This year’s theme placed emphasis on community participation and social behaviour change to improve nutrition outcomes for women and children — key pillars of the Suposhit Bharat vision under the POSHAN Abhiyaan.


Focus Areas and Key Themes

Throughout the month-long celebration, awareness campaigns, outreach programs, and interactive sessions were conducted at both state and district levels under the following themes:

Addressing Obesity: Reducing excessive consumption of sugar, salt, and oil.

Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE): Promoting the Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi (PBPB) initiative to integrate nutrition with early learning.

Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Practices: Strengthening awareness among mothers and caregivers.

Men-streaming: Encouraging male participation in nutrition and child care efforts.

Vocal for Local: Promoting local food diversity, indigenous produce, and grassroots empowerment.

Convergence Actions & Digitization: Fostering multi-sectoral collaboration and digital innovation for better nutrition tracking and service delivery.

The observance included rallies, recipe demonstrations, health camps, school activities, and interactive Anganwadi-led community sessions — reinforcing collective responsibility toward a healthier Manipur.


State-Level Closing Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony and State Level Incentive Awards for Anganwadi Functionaries, 2025 were held at the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Imphal.

Dr. Kh. Palin Singh – Guest of Honour, Chairman & Managing Director, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (Advisor, Indon Maipakpi Memorial Trust)


Recognising Grassroots Champions

In recognition of their dedication to child health, early education, and community nutrition, State Level Incentive Awards were presented to outstanding Anganwadi Functionaries, including the Best Anganwadi Worker and Best Anganwadi Helper.

Secretary Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, IAS, lauded the dedication of Anganwadi workers as “the real pillars of India’s nutrition mission,” adding that their continuous engagement with families is what sustains long-term behavioural change.

“Nutrition is not just about food — it’s about awareness, care, and empowerment. Anganwadi workers are the bridge between government efforts and grassroots impact,” he said.

Director Smt. Anna Arambam, IAS, highlighted that the success of Poshan Maah 2025 reflects Manipur’s steady progress toward improving maternal and child health through integrated and convergent approaches.

Dr. Kh. Palin Singh, speaking as Guest of Honour, emphasised the vital role of public-private partnership and local initiatives in addressing emerging challenges such as childhood obesity and micronutrient deficiency.


Towards a Healthier and Empowered Manipur

The Social Welfare Department reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the goals of Poshan Abhiyaan through inter-departmental convergence and data-driven interventions. The month’s campaigns successfully engaged communities in every district, reinforcing the message that nutrition and education must go hand-in-hand.

As the curtains closed on Poshan Maah 2025, the collective resolve remained clear — to continue nurturing a generation that is healthier, stronger, and better informed.
