Former UNLF Chairman RK Sanayaima has cautioned that the ongoing crisis in Manipur is “far from over,” warning that sporadic violence and instability may continue to affect the lives of the people.
Speaking at a Ningol Chakkouba celebration organised by the Khundrakpam Kendra Tengbang Lup (KKTL) at Sawombung Community Hall on Sunday, Sanayaima said that while the intensity of the conflict has declined, “the challenges are not over yet.”
The event was attended by around 600 displaced women from Sajiwa and Sawombung relief camps, who were treated to a festive meal as part of the celebration.
Sanayaima expressed concern that sporadic aggression could persist and alleged that external forces continue to fuel unrest in the State. “Earlier, people from the West brought hardship to Manipur. Today, Kukis from Myanmar have become a scourge, threatening the State’s integrity,” he said.
He lamented the lack of unity among the people, calling it a major obstacle to restoring peace. “Instead of standing united, some are driven by personal interests, making statements and taking actions that divide society,” he observed.
The former rebel leader also criticised the State Government, saying it has failed to address the suffering of displaced persons and the worsening economic situation. “The economy is in shambles, and many daily wage earners have lost their livelihoods. The Government must act with commitment to ease the people’s suffering,” he added.
Sanayaima urged citizens to collectively pressure the Government to fulfil its responsibilities and work together to rebuild a stable and just society.
As part of the programme, monthly pensions for martyrs from Khundrakpam AC were distributed in the presence of former ICHAM president N. Rajendro and KKTL president Maibam Kebi.
