Deputy Commissioner Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS, led an agricultural support initiative in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Office, distributing urea fertiliser and Rabi seeds — including mustard, field pea, and lentil — to selected farmers of the Latingkhal area.
The programme, organised under the State Plan and the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO–OS), seeks to enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen local livelihoods in Jiribam, one of Manipur’s key agricultural zones.
Promoting Self-Reliant Agriculture
Addressing the gathering, Shri Krishna Kumar highlighted the importance of self-sufficiency in agriculture and urged farmers to adopt improved farming techniques to make the most of the resources provided.
“The focus is not just on distribution, but on empowerment. Every seed and every bag of fertiliser represents an investment in the district’s sustainable growth,” he said.
Officials from the Agriculture Department briefed farmers on effective fertiliser application and integrated pest management to ensure better yields and long-term soil health.
Support under NMEO–Oilseeds
The NMEO–Oilseeds scheme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, aims to increase domestic oilseed production, reduce import dependency, and ensure nutritional security through sustainable cultivation practices.
By supporting farmers with quality inputs during the Rabi season, the initiative enables diversification of crops, especially mustard and lentils, which thrive in Jiribam’s agro-climatic conditions.

Empowering Local Farmers
The Deputy Commissioner commended the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Office for its ground-level engagement with farmers, particularly in identifying genuine beneficiaries and ensuring equitable distribution.
He also encouraged farmers to form cooperative groups for collective marketing and value addition, emphasising that sustainable growth lies in linking production with better market access.
“Farmers are the backbone of our local economy. These interventions must translate into real productivity and prosperity,” Shri Krishna Kumar added.
The event concluded with a practical demonstration on seed treatment and fertiliser management, conducted by agricultural field staff and extension workers.
Officials assured that similar support drives will be extended to other parts of the district in the coming months, aligning with the government’s broader mission to strengthen the Rabi season output and ensure inclusive agricultural development across Manipur.
