In a moment of pride for Manipur Police, Woman Sub-Inspector (WSI) Phuritsabam Romibala Devi of Jiribam District has been awarded the Kendriya Grihamantri Dashakta Padak 2025, one of India’s prestigious honours recognizing exceptional police performance in investigation.
The award acknowledges her outstanding professionalism, sensitivity, and precision in investigating a rape case involving a 22-year-old differently-abled woman from Sonapur, Jiribam.

What made WSI Romibala Devi’s investigation stand out was not just the result — but the process. Recognizing the survivor’s communication challenges, she ensured that sign language experts were engaged throughout the inquiry, enabling clear and respectful interaction during statement recording.
Under her leadership, the investigation team gathered crucial forensic and biological evidence, including DNA samples that conclusively linked the accused to the crime. This evidence formed the backbone of a watertight charge sheet submitted on June 27, 2025, earning commendation from senior officers and forensic analysts alike.
