Manipur Police have arrested a 25-year-old digital content creator, identified as Yumkhaibam Shantikumar of Tangkham Awang Leikai, Haraorou, Pangei Yangdong, Imphal East district, in connection with an FIR related to a viral video that recently circulated on social media.
The arrest took place on 24 November 2025, following an investigation into a video in which Shantikumar was seen interviewing individuals in public spaces while asking suggestive questions.
Police said the content of the questions had the potential to promote conspiracy to commit criminal intimidation, foster distrust among social groups, and spread unverified or false information — all of which fall within offences liable under the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of cyber law.
The Viral Video That Triggered the FIR
According to police sources, the FIR was registered after the video began widely circulating online, drawing concern among citizens and local authorities.
The video reportedly featured casual street interviews in which the creator posed leading or insinuative questions that could be interpreted as encouraging fear, communal bias, or misinformed narratives.
Investigators noted that while digital content creation is a growing medium for public expression, creators have a responsibility to avoid content that may:
Escalate tensions between social groups
Spread misinformation
Promote intimidation or unlawful acts
Misrepresent facts or provoke public disorder
Authorities emphasised that the matter was handled with caution, given the sensitivity of maintaining peace and trust among communities in the state.
Police Action and Legal Process
Based on evidence collected during the investigation, the police concluded that the creator’s actions warranted criminal proceedings.
Shantikumar was subsequently arrested and taken into custody for further questioning.
Officials stated that legal action is being pursued according to the FIR, with further scrutiny of digital devices, raw footage, and online activity expected as part of the ongoing probe.
Police reiterated that they welcome creative expression and free speech, but any digital content that crosses into the territory of incitement, misinformation, or provocative manipulation of public sentiment will be dealt with as per the law.
