The Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST), Imphal, has conferred the prestigious “RIST Distinguished Scientist Award 2025 in Chemical Sciences” on Dr. Raghumani Singh Ningthoujam, a leading scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Materials Science and nanotechnology-based cancer research.
Born in 1972 to late Ningthoujam Kula Singh and late Ningthoujam Ongbi Akoijam Meipak Devi of Thoubal Achouba Makha Leikai, Manipur, Dr. Raghumani Singh currently serves as Scientific Officer (G) in the Chemistry Division at BARC — one of India’s foremost research institutions under the Department of Atomic Energy.
A Lifetime Devoted to Materials Science
Dr. Raghumani’s work bridges the disciplines of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, focusing on Rare-earth doped nanomaterials and Quantum Dots (QDs) — microscopic particles with unique optical and electronic properties.
His pioneering studies have explored nanomaterials for cancer therapy, leveraging luminescent and magnetic properties of rare-earth elements to develop targeted drug delivery systems and non-invasive diagnostic techniques.
According to RIST, the award recognises his interdisciplinary innovation, which has advanced global understanding of materials at the nanoscale and their biomedical applications.

A proud alumnus of Manipur University, Dr. Raghumani completed his M.Sc. in Chemistry in 1996, before joining the country’s premier atomic research institution.
Over nearly three decades, he has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals, mentored young scientists, and contributed to India’s research excellence in materials and energy sciences. His work has also earned global attention in the fields of nanophosphors, quantum nanostructures, and luminescent materials for healthcare technologies.
