In a major breakthrough against cross-border narcotics trafficking, Security Forces arrested three individuals involved in opium smuggling during a joint operation at the Behiang check post under Behiang Police Station, Churachandpur district.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the 7 Assam Rifles, who intercepted two two-wheelers suspected of transporting illegal substances. Upon thorough checking, the team discovered approximately 11 kilograms of opium concealed within the vehicles.

Thangkhanthawng (33) of Kannan Veng, Churachandpur district
Limminthang alias L. Khongsai (34) of Moreh Ward No. 9, presently residing at Tuibong, Churachandpur district
Thangjalet alias Letneu (31) of K. Nivangphai, Churachandpur district

According to sources, the consignment was being transported for potential cross-border trafficking through the Indo-Myanmar route — a corridor known for illegal narcotics trade. The quick interception by the troops prevented the contraband from being circulated further.
Both the vehicles and the seized narcotics were taken into custody, and the three accused, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the Behiang Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Security officials stated that such operations form part of a larger anti-drug campaign aimed at dismantling the growing nexus of narcotics smuggling networks operating in border areas.
A senior police officer remarked, “The cooperation between security forces, local police, and civil society has been instrumental in curbing the illegal trade of opium and other contraband substances. Community vigilance remains key to maintaining momentum in this fight.”
