MOMA Conducts Solar Infrastructure Inspection to Empower Farmers in Manipur

In a significant push towards clean energy adoption in agriculture, the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) under the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, carried out an on-site inspection of solar-powered infrastructure in the Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.

The initiative is part of the broader Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) and aims to ensure long-term energy sustainability and cost reduction for the farming community.

🌞 Sustainable Energy Installations Reviewed

The inspection covered:

Solar Water Pumps – installed to support irrigation needs with minimal operational cost.

Decentralised Solar Food Processing Units – designed to enable clean and efficient post-harvest value addition by farmers.

These installations are the result of collaborative efforts between MOMA, MANIREDA (Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency), and SELCO, a leading solar energy solutions provider.

🤝 Engagement with Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs)

During the field visit, the team also interacted with Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), educating them about:

Advantages of decentralised solar infrastructure

Financial and technical support under MOVCDNER

Opportunities for increasing profitability through energy-efficient practices

The campaign helped spread awareness about MOVCDNER’s role in promoting clean energy, improving crop quality, and enhancing market linkages for organic farmers.

📊 Benefits of Solar-Based Interventions

Feature Impact on Farmers
Solar Water Pumps Reduced diesel dependency and irrigation costs
Food Processing Units Increased value addition and shelf life
Reliable Electricity Consistent operations even in remote areas
Clean Energy Eco-friendly, reduces carbon footprint

🗣️ Official Statement

“Our goal is to build an energy-resilient farming ecosystem that uplifts rural communities while protecting the environment. Solar technologies under MOVCDNER are transforming how Manipur’s farmers produce and process their harvest,” said an official from MOMA.
