The Department of Science & Technology, Government of Manipur, successfully organised the State Level Science Drama Competition 2025 at the Manipur Science Centre, Takyelpat, on November 4. The event brought together creativity, science, and storytelling, as young students used theatre to communicate powerful ideas about environmental responsibility and innovation.
Among a lineup of talented school teams from across the state, Oinam Government Higher Secondary School emerged as the Best Team, winning the top honour for their original drama titled “Kalhourasi Malem” (Let’s Save Our Planet Earth).
The team will now go on to represent Manipur at the North East Zonal Level Science Drama Competition, scheduled to be held in Guwahati on November 21, 2025.
Where Science and Art Collide
This annual competition, organised under the guidance of the National Council for Science Museums (NCSM) and supported by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Manipur, aims to promote scientific temper through performing arts.
Each participating team presented short plays on themes related to science, environment, innovation, and sustainability — turning complex ideas into engaging and relatable performances for audiences of all ages.
Officials said the goal was to “bring science closer to society” by showcasing how creativity can drive awareness and inspire change.
“Drama has the power to communicate scientific ideas in ways that connect emotionally. The performances this year truly reflected both knowledge and imagination,” said a senior official from the Department of Science & Technology.
Winning Drama: ‘Kalhourasi Malem’ (Let’s Save Our Planet Earth)
The winning team from Oinam Govt. Higher Secondary School impressed the judges with their message-driven script on climate change, pollution, and human responsibility toward nature. Through song, dialogue, and vivid stagecraft, the play depicted a planet on the brink of collapse — and the urgent need for young people to take the lead in restoring balance.
The judges commended the team for its scientific accuracy, strong stage coordination, and creative storytelling that seamlessly blended traditional performance styles with environmental science.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The event concluded with an award ceremony recognizing outstanding performances, innovation, and teamwork. The organisers congratulated all participants for their enthusiasm and scientific curiosity, encouraging them to continue using art as a tool for education and change.
“These young dramatists are not just performing; they’re thinking, questioning, and inspiring,” one jury member said. “That’s what science communication is all about.”
The win for Oinam Govt. HSS marks yet another example of how Manipur’s schools are nurturing talent that merges intellect, creativity, and civic consciousness — an encouraging sign for the state’s growing science education movement.
