As part of the Week-Long Mega Identification, Assessment & Aids and Devices Distribution Camp, Education (S) Secretary Shri Naorem Praveen Singh distributed wheelchairs and hearing aids to children with special needs at Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School (MUGHSS) in Chandel.
The initiative is being conducted across 35 blocks of Manipur, with the goal of identifying special needs students, assessing their conditions, and providing customised assistive devices to support their education and daily life.
Empowering Through Access
The camp is organized by the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Chandel under Samagra Shiksha, and is part of the state’s broader celebration of the 5th anniversary of the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam (NEP 2020).

Specialist-Led Health Assessments
Children from multiple schools across Chandel town underwent medical assessments by teams of ENT, orthopaedic, and psychiatry specialists to determine their assistive needs.
“We’re not just handing out devices — we’re ensuring that every child is properly evaluated so the support they receive is truly useful,” said one attending health official.
Education Secretary’s Commitment
During the event, Secretary Naorem Praveen Singh assured the deployment of special educators in schools to meet the individual learning needs of these children.
He also reviewed the infrastructure and stock facilities of the school and held a meeting with ZEO officials and school authorities to discuss areas of improvement.
