The Manipur Police celebrated its 134th Raising Day with a grand parade and series of events held at the 1st Manipur Rifles (1MR) Ground, Imphal. The function was graced by Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, as the Chief Guest, marking a moment of pride and reflection on the Force’s enduring service to the State.
A total of 12 contingents of Manipur Police participated in the ceremonial parade, showcasing discipline, precision, and pride in their service. The parade also featured a skill demonstration by sports personnel of the Manipur Police, drawing applause from the dignitaries and the public alike.
Honouring Service and Excellence
The ceremony included the presentation of awards to officers and personnel for outstanding performance and acts of bravery. Among the key recognitions were the Jeevan Raksha Padak, the DGP’s Trophy for Best Battalion, Best Police Station, and Best Police Officer.
A special highlight of the event was the felicitation of Addl. SP Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who has brought laurels to the State and the nation with her recent achievements — a Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Ahmedabad and a Silver Medal at the World Weightlifting Championships in Forde, Norway.
Her recognition served as an inspiration to fellow officers, symbolising the balance between athletic excellence and professional dedication within the Force.
Governor’s Message: Commitment, Courage, and Compassion
Addressing the gathering, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla congratulated the Manipur Police for their commitment to maintaining peace and public order amid challenging circumstances. He lauded the Force’s growing emphasis on fitness, community service, and people-friendly policing, calling them “pillars of a modern, responsive force.”
The Governor also commended the Police Headquarters (PHQ) for its focus on welfare reforms and professional upgradation.
DGP Announces Uniform Allowance Revision After 36 Years
In a major announcement, Director General of Police, Manipur, Shri Rajiv Singh, IPS, revealed that the Governor-in-Council has approved the long-awaited revision of the annual uniform allowance for police officers.
Under the new structure, Manipur Police Service (MPS) officers will receive ₹8,000, and Junior Commissioned Officers — including Inspectors, Subedars, Sub-Inspectors, and Jemadars — will receive ₹6,000 per annum.
“The previous allowance was implemented in 1989 and had remained unchanged for 36 years. This revision is a generous and timely gesture from the Hon’ble Governor, acknowledging the hard work and sacrifice of the force,” said the DGP.
Blood Donation, Sports, and Fitness Events Across Districts
Adding a humanitarian touch to the celebration, a blood donation camp was organized at the 1st MR Banquet Hall, where 58 police personnel voluntarily donated blood.
Across the State, district police units marked the occasion with community-oriented programmes:
Kakching District Police held a Mini-Marathon themed “Take this challenge: Be a fit policeman”, from Sekmaijing Bridge to the SP Office, with 158 participants.
Churachandpur District Police organized an Exhibition Football Match between two police teams to promote camaraderie and teamwork.
Kangpokpi District Police inaugurated a new badminton court, launching the 1st Kangpokpi District Police Badminton Tournament. Notably, Kangpokpi Police Station was also awarded the DGP’s Trophy for Best Police Station 2025.
A Legacy Renewed
The 134th Raising Day reflected not only the history of the Manipur Police but also its evolving role in a changing society — blending discipline with compassion, and tradition with innovation.
From the parade grounds of Kangla to the remote hills, the celebrations reaffirmed the Force’s motto:
“To Serve and Protect — with Honour, Courage, and Integrity.”
